What is arm surgery?

Especially after significant weight loss, loosening of the skin in the arm area occurs. Plastic surgery of the arms will eliminate this aesthetic and functional problem and firm the upper limbs. Brachioplasty or arm lift is a procedure aimed at removing excess skin and fatty tissue in the upper arms. The resulting scar runs on the inside of the arm from the elbow to the armpit. The procedure takes approximately 1.5 hours.

Consultation with a doctor

  • Evaluation of the extent of the overhang and the condition of the skin, proposal of the optimal solution.

Preoperative examination

  • ECG, blood tests
  • It is possible to undergo an examination at our clinic
  • Results must be no older than 14 days before the procedure
  • Inform the doctor about the medicines and supplements you are taking

Preparation before the procedure

  • Avoid weight fluctuations – it is advisable to undergo the procedure only after you have stabilized your weight
  • 7 days before the procedure, take out blood thinners
  • 24 h before the procedure no smoking
  • 12 h before the operation do not eat, drink alcohol or coffee

Procedure

  • The length of the procedure is approximately 1.5 hours
  • The surgeon removes excess skin from the inside of the arms
  • The resulting scar is hidden when the arms are lowered freely.

After the procedure

  • The arms are bandaged with elastic bandages, which are left for 14 days.
  • The patient usually stays in the clinic for 1-2 days
  • Elastic bandage worn while sleeping
  • Lessons on post-operative care and scar care
  • Make sure you get a ride home – you may not be able to go home immediately after the procedure

Follow up

  • After 14 days, removal of the patches and the first healing check
  • The stitches absorb themselves.

Long-term controls

  • Healing, scar development is monitored
  • Pressure massage of the scar, the use of silicone strips and a gradual increase in load are recommended.

Aftercare

Increased restriction: 1 week of rest after the procedure

Recommendations

  • Compression bandage must be worn continuously for 2 weeks
  • Office work possible after 1 week
  • Full physical load on arms after 4 weeks

Contraindications

Possible complications

The treatment is not suitable for people who:

  • With an ongoing infection
  • With healing disorder
  • Unstable weight

Possible complications are rare and may include:

  • Thickening or widening of the scar
  • Swelling, bleeding
  • Loss of feeling in the incision area
