INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

What is sclerotization of varicose veins?

Sclerotization is an inexpensive outpatient method that elegantly addresses minor cosmetic venous deficiencies without the need for surgery in patients with normal ultrasound findings in the lower extremities.
Sclerotherapy is an outpatient procedure in which a sclerosing substance (liquid or foam) is injected into the vein. The substance damages the vein wall, causing sterile inflammation that leads to the vein walls sticking together and then turning into a non-functional connective band. It is mainly used to remove cosmetically unsightly varicose veins and small varices. There are two types: liquid sclerotization – suitable for micro varices (1-3 mm) and foam sclerotization – used for larger varices and reticular varices. The procedure is time-saving, almost without limitations and without the need for incapacity for work. Optimally there is a 60-80% reduction of veins. 2-4 sessions are often needed with a minimum of 4-6 weeks apart. The procedure takes 20-40 minutes depending on the number and extent of veins treated.
