What is reduction mammaplasty?

Breast reduction, or reduction mammaplasty, can be a solution that brings not only physical relief but also psychological well-being. Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that removes excess breast tissue and skin, making the breasts smaller and more firm and aesthetically pleasing. The surgery is always combined with breast lift and is performed under general anaesthesia. The duration of the procedure is approximately 2-3 hours.

Consultation with an expert

    • We will discuss your wishes and options based on consideration of your physical disposition
  • After the consultation you will receive a price calculation and possible dates of surgery

Preoperative examination

  • ECG, blood tests, possibly sonography of the breasts
  • It is possible to undergo an examination at our clinic
  • Blood test results must not be older than 30 days before the procedure
  • Inform the doctor about the medicines and supplements you are taking

Preparation before the procedure

  • stop taking blood thinners 7 days before the procedure
  • do not smoke for 24 hours before the procedure
  • 12 h before the operation do not eat, drink alcohol or coffee
  • Do not use body creams and perfumes on the day of the procedure

Procedure

  • The procedure takes approximately 2-3 hours under general anaesthesia. The surgeon makes an anchor-shaped incision, removes excess tissue and skin, and repositions the nipple to a higher position.
  • A special postoperative bra is fitted directly in the operating room

After the procedure

  • The patient usually stays in the clinic for 1 day
  • The next morning after the procedure, there is a check-up by the surgeon and usually a discharge to home care
  • Instructions for post-operative care and scar care
  • The breasts are still protected by a tightening bra
  • Make sure you get a ride home – you may not be able to drive immediately after the procedure.

Follow up

  • A follow-up visit with the surgeon takes place7-14 days after the procedure
  • The stitches do not need to be removed, they are absorbable

Sonographic examination:

  • Regular checks once a year are recommended
  • It is possible to take them directly at our workplace

Aftercare

Increased restriction: one week of rest after the procedure

Recommendations

  • Wear the elastic bra continuously for 4 weeks
  • Sleep on your back for 2 weeks
  • Rest for the first week, no heavy lifting
  • Return to normal routine usually in 7-10 days
  • Sport and more demanding physical activity after about 2 months
  • Scar massage from 2nd to 3rd week for better healing

Contraindications

Possible complications

The treatment is not suitable for people who:

  • Under 18 years of age
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • With a history of breast cancer
  • With acute infection
  • With a tendency to form keloid scars

Possible complications are rare and may include:

  • Bleeding, swelling, infection
  • Wound healing problems
  • Changes in nipple sensitivity
