Information about the procedure

What is Quervain’s disease?

De Quervain’s disease (also stenosing tendovaginitis) is a painful inflammation of the tendons and tendon sheaths of the thumb in the wrist area. If conservative treatment does not help, surgery offers permanent relief. It is an inflammation of the tendons and their sheaths (tendovaginitis) in the area of the first tendon compartment of the wrist. The tendons of the muscles responsible for unwinding and extending the thumb are affected. As a result of the inflammation, the tendon thickens and the tendon canal narrows, causing pain and restricted movement of the thumb and wrist. It most often affects middle-aged women, young mothers or people performing repetitive hand movements.
