What is chin surgery?

A profileplasty is a surgical procedure that adjusts the size, shape and position of the chin to match the overall facial aesthetic for a harmonious and balanced facial profile. Profiloplasty involves plastic modification of the chin – either by implant (augmentation) or by sculpting and reducing the actual bone tissue. The result is a harmonised facial profile, often in combination with other procedures (e.g. rhinoplasty).

Preoperative preparation

  • Photo documentation
  • Preoperative examination – ECG, blood tests
  • It is possible to undergo an examination at our clinic
  • Results must be no older than 14 days before the procedure
  • Inform the doctor about the medicines and supplements you are taking

  • 7 days before the procedure, take out blood thinners
  • 48 h before the procedure no smoking
  • 12 h before the operation do not eat, drink alcohol
  • Do not use body creams and perfumes on the day of the procedure

Procedure

  • Lasts approximately 60-90 minutes
  • It is performed under general anaesthesia according to the extent of
  • Augmentation: insertion of the implant through an incision under the chin or from inside the mouth
  • Reduction: adjustment of the bony part of the chin as required

  • Applying a pressure bandage or elastic bandage

Medium restriction: 5 days of rest after the procedure

Recommendations

  • Soft diet during internal incision (oral approach)
  • Avoid sports and physical exertion for at least 2 weeks
  • Sleep on your back, elevated head position

Contraindications

Possible complications

The treatment is not suitable for people who:

  • Incomplete skeletal growth (in adolescents)
  • Disorders of healing or immunity
  • Inflammation in the oral cavity (internal incision)

Possible complications are rare and may include:

  • Swelling, infection or healing of the implant
  • Feeling a pulling or stiffness in the chin area
  • Minor irregularities or asymmetries
