What is labioplasty?

Labioplasty is a procedure in which the size and shape of the labia minora are surgically altered. Labioplasty is an aesthetic surgery that helps address overdeveloped, asymmetrical or loose labia minora.

It can be purely aesthetic, but it often solves functional problems – pain during sports, cycling or sexual intercourse. The goal is to achieve a more natural appearance, eliminate discomfort during sports, hygiene or sex, and increase the patient’s self-confidence.

Indications:

  • Overdeveloped labia minora
  • Asymmetry in the genital area
  • Pain and discomfort during exercise, sport or sex

Suitable for:

  • Women from 18 years of age
  • Adolescent girls only after assessment by a doctor and with parental consent

Consultation with a doctor

  • Assessment of the patient’s anatomy and health status
  • Discussion of the reasons for the procedure – functional or aesthetic
  • Proposal for the appropriate procedure and extent of labiaplasty
  • Information on the expected outcome and possible risks

Preoperative examination

  • Blood tests and internal examinations (available at our clinic)
  • The results must not be older than 14 days
  • Inform the doctor about any medications and supplements you are taking.
  • Necessity of terminated menstruation at the time of the procedure

Preparation before the procedure

  • 7 days before surgery, take out blood thinners
  • No smoking at least 24 hours before the procedure
  • No eating, drinking alcohol or coffee 12 h before the procedure
  • Arrange for an escort and a ride home

Procedure

  • Duration approx. 45-60 minutes
  • Performed under general or local anaesthesia
  • Adjustment of the size or asymmetry of the labia minora
  • Absorbable stitches are used, no need to remove them

After the cork

  • Bed rest for about 2 hours after the procedure
  • Possibility of going home the same day
  • Recommended to wear loose underwear and clothing
  • Pain is mild, controllable with common analgesics

Follow up

  • First inspection usually within 7-10 days
  • The doctor will check for healing and any swelling or bruising
  • After 2 weeks it is usually possible to return to normal functioning

  • Usually there is no need
  • According to the individual needs of the client

  • Avoid sports and sexual activities for at least 4 weeks

Contraindications

Possible complications

The treatment is not suitable for people who:

  • With acute infection or inflammation in the genital area
  • In pregnancy or just after childbirth
  • With blood clotting disorder

Possible complications are rare and may include:

  • Swelling, bruising, tenderness
  • Mild soreness or discomfort when sitting
  • Rarely infection or bleeding
