Information about the procedure

What’s a flaky finger?

A scaly finger (also called stenosing tendovaginitis) is a common problem that causes pain, limited mobility and impaired quality of life. A peeling finger is a condition in which the finger twitches painfully during movement due to narrowing of the tendon sheath. When the finger bends, the tendon has difficulty slipping and may “skip” or remain stuck in the loop. The middle and ring fingers are most commonly affected, less commonly the index finger. A scaly finger is more common in middle-aged women and is sometimes associated with other diseases (diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, de Quervain’s disease). Symptoms such as peeling, pain, blockage of finger movement or fixation in a bent position are typical. A simple surgical procedure can resolve the problem quickly and permanently.
